Sex-ed Curriculum
- Advocate for a sex-ed curriculum that is current, inclusive and age appropriate
- Promote a curriculum that supports "I Matter..."
- Work together with teachers and parents to make sure everyone is on the same page when it comes to the contents of the curriculum
- Communicate with parents and give break down of what will be taught during the year, so they can have time to speak with their children and address any concerns, or allow them to introduce the concepts to their children before they hear them in the classroom
- Create a survey to collect information about the issues parents have with the Sex Ed Curriculum. This will allow the board to have a better understanding of what the issues are and come up with a solution .
Physical Education Improvements
- Promote active transportation and work with the city to see what improvements can be made t make this possible
- Work with teachers and find creative ways to include movement in the classroom (i.e. dance, games, activities, learning not seating down)
- Advocate for frequent breaks between classes to promote movement and exercise
- Promote the use of dance in classes to allow student to get more exercise
- Create games during recess times and allow different grades to be involved
- Used technology to track exercise levels and achievements
- Find money in the budget to provide classrooms with tools to promote movement
- Look at other solutions other countries are using (i.e. Finland and The United States)
School Upgrades
- Conduct an audit in all schools and make sure that each school has Air Conditioning so that student can learn in a safe environment during the Hot summer days
- Review computer equipment on all schools and find creative ways to upgrade what is currently obsolete
- Look at budget and find money to upgrade playgrounds in schools
- Review unused space in schools and see how we can used them better (i.e. create art studios, shop classes, computer labs, science labs, reading rooms, musics rooms, exercise rooms)
Improve the use of technology in schools and classroom
- Review communication tools currently being used and implement efficient methods where needed
- Recommend to upgrade school websites so they can be used as a medium of communication and information for parents, teachers, student and the community
- Review what tools students are using and advocate to use modern tools like Google Education, Microsoft Office, tablets, Chrome books, online based software and other online tools that will help students with their learning
- Review what tools teachers have in the classroom and request for proper tools that will help in the classroom
- Upgrade curriculum to introduce the use of social media
- Audit Wi-Fi solutions in schools and make sure they are safe and are able to provide secure access to internet
- Review web filters in schools and make sure that students are able to browse the internet safe and that they are blocked from pages that are not appropriate
- Find creative/ cutting edge programs that can be used in the classroom to teach various subjects (i.e. Math in early grades, typing, arts, science)
